History
History at Swanmead covers a range of civilisations and periods of time from Ancient Egypt through to Henry VIII. Year 5 look at Victorian History and Ancient Egypt.
In Year 5 pupils are able to develop their knowledge and understanding, empathy and chronology of these periods.
Year 6 have the opportunity to study Ancient Greece and Local History in Ilminster. An enquiry based style of learning is used focusing on change and cause in everyday life.
Pupils at Key Stage 3 study Britain from 1050-1500, Romans, Tudors, Rise of Islam and Native American Indians. Where appropriate pupils are offered the choice of independent enquiries and may be able to choose a variety of learning outcomes. ICT is widely used within the department. The recent introduction of two media cameras into the department has provided the opportunity to be creative.
